North Pod Sand Camping FAQs
Area 21 is referred to as our North Pod. We refer to a “Pod” as a group of self-sufficient trailers camping overnight in the open dunes. The North Pod is located just south of Hauser Road in the center of the open dunes near the existing lake.
Each spot is $125.
Each pass is good for (5) five days and (4) four nights starting Wednesday, June 23rd and ending Sunday June 27th.
Camping passes can be pre-purchased through our website by using the link on this page. If spots do not sell out prior to the event passes can be purchased at the entry gate when you arrive, but they typically do sell out fast!
No. Camping passes and wristbands are sold separately. We did this to keep the cost as cheap as possible and wanted to make sure each participant only had to purchase what they needed.
You can pre-purchase wristbands through the website for $25 or purchase them at the gate for $30. We recommend purchasing them through the website to save $5 and help reduce wait times at the gate.
Yes, but please be aware everyone in your vehicle will need wristbands to get through the entry gate to access your camping spot. Wristbands are $25 per person through the website and $30 at the gate. Kids 12 and under are free.
Each year we make major changes to expand the event and reduce wait times to enter the event. This includes expanding our camping from 450 trailers to over 500 trailers, we created multiple air stations, we created multiple entry points to the sand, we added security in and around the event, we added ticket scanners at the gates to reduce wait times, we added extra portable restrooms and extra dumpsters. Best of all we have added a few new events like Dizzy Days, Race The Clock, Night Drag Races, Hillfest competition, improved our trophies, and expanded our vendor row. We hope these changes will make our great event even better. Our gate fee is half the cost of the competition and all our events still remain FREE once you are through the gate. So pay once, get your wristband, and then leave your wallet in the trailer and enjoy all TAKEOVER has to offer FREE of charge.
The event starts at 9:00 AM on Wednesday but you can check in starting Wednesday at 8:00 AM. Early check-in is available starting Tuesday at 2:00 PM. If you would like early check-in please email us at [email protected] to make sure your spot is available. There is a $25 charge per trailer for early check-in.
All participants are asked to clean their sites and check-out by noon on Sunday, June 27th.
There are no additional charges for extra vehicles or trailers for DAY-USE, however any vehicles and/or trailers staying on the passed 10pm will need to purchase a sand pass. There will be no overflow parking available.
There are NO dozers in the north pod. Please do research before the event and be prepared to access the sand without the use of a dozer. We recommend airing down the tires on the truck and trailer, bringing a shovel and a tow strap. If you get into trouble and get stuck make sure to let off the gas and ask for help. It you sink down to the frame it will make it difficult to move even with the help of another vehicle and a tow strap (hence the shovel).
Yes. It might seem silly but once your tires hit the sand all standard dune rules apply. This includes, but is not limited to, an ORV Tag and Flag. Even though our event is held on private property many of the campsites are located on Forest Service land. They have been extremely supportive of the event and we look forward to working with them for years to come. Please help us maintain this relationship by following the rules of the sand and neighboring properties while enjoying our event.
Area 21 can be accessed from Sandy Way near Hauser Road. Once participants arrive on-site, they will be greeted and guided to the Hauser Staging lot by our UTV Takeover security team. We have created a staging concept that will accommodate 6+ – 40’ trailers at any given time where participants can safely air down their trucks and trailers prior to entering the sand. There will NOT be a dozer available in this area. Similar to last year participants will be asked to enter the sand under their own power similar to any other weekend throughout the year. We feel with the right information and preparation participants should be able to navigate the soft sand under their own power. Our dedicated security team and dedicated traffic control team will stay in constant communication throughout the event and will make sure that access to and from the private residential properties, businesses, and private campgrounds in the area and along Sandy Way remain clear at all times.
No. These are dry camping sites located on the sand. You will need to bring in your own water. We recommend filling your tanks in Reedsport at the marina prior to heading south to Coos Bay. Gray water is not permitted to be dumped in the sand. If you need your tanks dumped or filled during the event please call ROTO ROOTER at (541) 290-0775. They will be camped on the sand and would be happy to service your trailer for a small fee.
Camp fires are allowed on the sand. Participants are asked to dig a hole for the fire and fill it in at the end of the event. We asked participants not to throw cans and garbage in the campfire.
Area 21 will have access to a 20-yard dumpster located in the northwest corner of the Hauser Day Use lot during the event. This dumpster will act as a disposal site for any participants camping on the sand while also providing additional capacity for this lot.
Area 21 will have access to portable restrooms on the sand. These restroom will be located at the North of the pod near the entrance to the sand. Showers are NOT available in this area.
