South Pod Sand Camping FAQs
Areas 15A, 15B, and 15C are referred to as our SOUTH POD sand camping spots. These 165 campsites are located just north of the Horsfall access road and just west of our Huckfest landing area. Each “pod” will hold 55 trailers. These spots will NOT be marked or pre-assigned. You are free to park anywhere in the pod and parking/camping areas will be first come first serve. This area is great for people with larger groups that are looking to be close to the event but want easy access to the open dunes.
Each spot is $150.
Each pass is good for (5) five days and (4) four nights starting Wednesday, June 23rd and ending Sunday June 27th.
Camping passes can be pre-purchased through our website by using the link on this page. If spots do not sell out prior to the event passes can be purchased at the entry gate when you arrive, but they typically do sell out fast!
No. Camping passes and wristbands are sold separately. We did this to keep the cost as cheap as possible and wanted to make sure each participant only had to purchase what they needed.
You can pre-purchase wristbands through the website for $25 or purchase them at the gate for $30. We recommend purchasing them through the website to save $5 and help reduce wait times at the gate.
Yes, but please be aware everyone in your vehicle will need wristbands to get through the entry gate to access your camping spot. Wristbands are $25 per person through the website and $30 at the gate. Kids 12 and under are free.
Each year we make major changes to expand the event and reduce wait times to enter the event. This includes expanding our camping from 450 trailers to over 500 trailers, we created multiple air stations, we created multiple entry points to the sand, we added security in and around the event, we added ticket scanners at the gates to reduce wait times, we added extra portable restrooms and extra dumpsters. Best of all we have added a few new events like Dizzy Days, Race The Clock, Night Drag Races, Hillfest competition, improved our trophies, and expanded our vendor row. We hope these changes will make our great event even better. Our gate fee is half the cost of the competition and all our events still remain FREE once you are through the gate. So pay once, get your wristband, and then leave your wallet in the trailer and enjoy all TAKEOVER has to offer FREE of charge.
The event starts at 9:00 AM on Wednesday but you can check in starting Wednesday at 8:00 AM. Early check-in is available starting Tuesday at 2:00 PM. If you would like early check-in please email us at [email protected] to make sure your spot is available. There is a $25 charge per trailer for early check-in.
All participants are asked to clean their sites and check-out by noon on Sunday, June 27th.
There are no additional charges for extra vehicles or trailers for DAY-USE, however any vehicles and/or trailers staying on the passed 10pm will need to purchase a sand pass. There will be no overflow parking available.
To increase efficiency we hope that many of the campers will do research and be prepared to access the sand without the use of a dozer. However, if you don’t feel comfortable doing so we will have (3) three dozers on-site to assist you. The dozer service is FREE but tips are welcome.
Yes. It might seem silly but once your tires hit the sand all standard dune rules apply. This includes, but is not limited to, an ORV Tag and Flag. Even though our event is held on private property many of the campsites are located on Forest Service land. They have been extremely supportive of the event and we look forward to working with them for years to come. Please help us maintain this relationship by following the rules of the sand and neighboring properties while enjoying our event.
Areas 15A, 15B, and 15C can be accessed through the Horsfall Day Use lot or through the Old Bark Day Use lot. Please see the map above to determine which route you should take to access your “pod”. Once you arrive at our south gate located on Horsfall Beach Road, you will be greeted and guided to either the Horsfall Day Use lot or the Old Bark Day Use lot by our UTV TAKEOVER security team. We have created a staging concept that will accommodate 25 – 40’ trailers at any given time, where you can safely air down your truck and trailer prior to entering the sand. Compared to last year where everyone was required to use a dozer, this year you will be asked to enter the sand under your own power similar to any other weekend throughout the year. If you don’t feel comfortable doing so, simply ask for dozer assistance from a UTV TAKEOVER official. This small but important change will greatly reduce if not eliminate any traffic issues on Horsfall Beach Road and significantly cut down wait times.
No. These are dry camping sites located on the sand. You will need to bring in your own water. We recommend filling your tanks in Reedsport at the marina prior to heading south to Coos Bay. Gray water is not permitted to be dumped in the sand. If you need your tanks dumped or filled during the event please call ROTO ROOTER at (541) 290-0775. They will be camped on the sand and would be happy to service your trailer for a small fee.
Camp fires are allowed on the sand. Participants are asked to dig a hole for the fire and fill it in at the end of the event. We asked participants not to throw cans and garbage in the campfire.
Areas 15A and 15B will have access to a 20-yard dumpster located in the southeast corner of the Horsfall Day Use lot during the event. Area 15C will have access to a 20-yard dumpster located at the south end of the Old Bark Day Use lot near the restrooms. We ask that all participants help keep the dunes clean by using these dumpsters during the event.
Areas 15A, 15B and 15C will have access to portable restrooms located near the Southwest corner of the track. Showers are NOT available in this area.
Areas 15A, 15B, and 15C will NOT have a Campground Host; however, this area will be monitored throughout the day by our UTV TAKEOVER security team with assistance from the Forest Service and Sheriff.
